Jewish explanations interpret them as&nbsp;fallen angels. The main reference to them is in&nbsp;Genesis, but the passage is ambiguous and the identity of the Nephilim is disputed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;Book of Numbers&nbsp;13:33, they later inhabited&nbsp;Canaan&nbsp;at the time of the&nbsp;Israelite conquest of Canaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The name &#8220;Canaan&#8221; appears throughout the&nbsp;Bible, where it corresponds to &#8220;the&nbsp;Levant&#8221;, in particular to the areas of the&nbsp;Southern Levant&nbsp;that provide the main settings of the narratives of the Bible: the&nbsp;Land of Israel,&nbsp;Philistia&nbsp;and&nbsp;Phoenicia, among others.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Southern Levant<\/strong>&nbsp;is a&nbsp;geographical region&nbsp;encompassing the southern half of the&nbsp;Levant.
