Scythian origin who migrated from Central Asia southward into northern and western regions of ancient India from the middle of the 2nd century BCE to the 4th century CE.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div suggests that the Western and Eastern Scythians of the 1st millennium BC originated independently, but both combine\u00a0Yamnaya-related ancestry, which spread eastwards from the area of the European steppes,\u00a0with an\u00a0East Asian-related component, which most closely corresponds to the modern North\u00a0Siberian\u00a0Nganasan people\u00a0of the lower\u00a0Yenisey River, to varying degrees, but generally higher among Eastern Scythians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, archaeological evidence now tends to suggest that the origins of\u00a0Scythian culture, characterized by its\u00a0kurgans\u00a0burial mounds and its\u00a0<em>Animal style<\/em>\u00a0of the 1st millennium BC, are to be found among Eastern Scythians rather than their Western counterparts: eastern\u00a0kurgans\u00a0are older than western ones (such as the Altaic kurgan\u00a0Arzhan 1\u00a0in\u00a0Tuva), and elements of the\u00a0<em>Animal style<\/em>\u00a0are first attested in areas of the\u00a0Yenisei river\u00a0and modern-day China in the 10th century CE.\u00a0The rapid spread of Scythian culture, from the Eastern Scythians to the Western Scythians, is also confirmed by significant east-to-west gene flow across the steppes during the 1st millennium BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sakas spoke a language belonging to the\u00a0Iranian branch\u00a0of the\u00a0Indo-European languages. The\u00a0Pazyryk burials\u00a0of the\u00a0Pazyryk culture\u00a0in the\u00a0Ukok Plateau\u00a0in the 4th and 3rd centuries BC are thought to be of Saka chieftains.\u00a0These burials show striking similarities with the earlier\u00a0Tarim mummies\u00a0at\u00a0Gumugou.\u00a0The\u00a0Issyk kurgan\u00a0of south-eastern\u00a0Kazakhstan,\u00a0and the\u00a0Ordos culture\u00a0of the\u00a0Ordos Plateau\u00a0has also been connected with the Saka.\u00a0It has been suggested that the ruling elite of the\u00a0Xiongnu\u00a0was of Saka origin.\u00a0Some scholars contend that in the 8th century BC, a Saka raid on\u00a0Altai\u00a0may be &#8220;connected&#8221; with a raid on\u00a0Zhou China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Women&#039;s Rights in Ancient Times\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Uv1C2Hf-grA?start=2&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> Greek historians wrote of the wars between the Saka and the\u00a0Medes, as well as their wars against\u00a0Cyrus the Great\u00a0of the Persian Achaemenid Empire where Saka women were said to fight alongside their men. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saka women dressed in much the same fashion as men. A Pazyryk burial, discovered in the 1990s, contained the skeletons of a man and a woman, each with weapons, arrowheads, and an axe.
