In short, the difference between hazel eyes and those with central heterochromia lies in&nbsp;<strong>how the melanin is dispersed<\/strong>. The amount of diffusion varies from person to person. This diffusion makes it appear like the eyes change colors with different light sources and changes in surrounding colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With central heterochromia, the areas of color are more distict. There is not a gradation in colors, but rather a distict transition from the inner color to the outer color of the iris. Usually, the inner color appears like a star pattern around the pupil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the photos below, the first image is an example of an eye with central heterochromia. Notice how distict the brown layer is from the outer layer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second photo is of someone with hazel eyes.
