The&nbsp;<strong>brain<\/strong>&nbsp;needs constant&nbsp;<strong>blood flow<\/strong>&nbsp;in order to keep up with the heavy metabolic demands of the neurons. The biggest part of the&nbsp;<strong>brain<\/strong>&nbsp;is the cerebrum which makes up 85% of the&nbsp;<strong>brain&#8217;s<\/strong>&nbsp;weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the\u00a0<strong>brain<\/strong>\u00a0is only about 2% of the total body weight in humans, it receives 15-20% of the body&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>blood supply<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The right and left vertebral arteries come together at the base of the\u00a0<strong>brain<\/strong>\u00a0to form a single basilar artery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the neck, the jugular veins parallel the upward course of the carotid arteries and&nbsp;<strong>drain blood<\/strong>&nbsp;into the superior vena cava.
