COVID-19 increases the risk of dangerous blood clots. Approximately 30% of these complications occur many times more often than usual in intensive care patients. It is not clear whether a strong immune response or the virus itself is responsible for excessive blood clotting.
SARS-CoV-2 causes much more body damage than initially thought. Patients with severe covid-19 often develop pneumonia, in many cases the coronavirus damages the heart or causes neurological symptoms from loss of smell to paralysis, seizures or stroke.
Now doctors are reporting another harmful impact of the coronavirus. Many patients with Covid-19 experience blood clotting disorders. The result is thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, as well as strokes. These complications apparently also affect younger patients, according to doctors. “The number of problems related to blood clots is unprecedented”

(CNN hematologist Jeffrey Laurence from Weill Cornell Medicine, New York).
